Can a leaf blower / vacuum safely vacuum straw ? - vacuum blower

Recently I had installed my yard and the contractor on the new lawn thatched left. Now that the grass is, I move the haystack. My BVM200VS Poulan Pro Blower / Vac is a bag attachment, and wondered whether there was a vacuum that is contrary to the straw.
